Grand National history maker Rachael Blackmore moved within nine of sidelined Paul Townend in the race to be champion jockey with success in the rated novice chase at Fairyhouse this evening. She got Somptueux home in front for Henry de Bromhead.
This Follow Fairyhouse On Social Media Rated Novice Chase saw the six contenders jump the penultimate fence together but from before the last it was Somptueux and Samurai Cracker that were battling it out.
Off a 185 day break Somptueux proved the stronger in the closing stages to triumph by two lengths.
The winning rider reported: “We didn't go much of a gallop and he was a bit in my hands early on.
“It was a lovely first run back after a break and hopefully he'll progress now.
“He was let off for the winter ground and hopefully now we'll have a good summer, it started off well anyway.”
When asked how the last few days have been after her National victory she added:- “It's hard to even comprehend it all.”
