J.P. McManus will relinquish last year's Champion Owner title at the end of the week to Michael O'Leary's Gigginstown House Stud but he did complete an early double at Punchestown today, when his Some Article landed the Grade B Killashee Handicap Hurdle.
Ridden by Niall 'Slippers' Madden, Some Article stayed on well in the closing stages for a half length win over Macnicholon.
Afterwards winning trainer Tom Mullins stated "I was fairly hopeful after winning at Fairyhouse and he came out of that well but I was hoping he was still at the right end of the weights.
"The way he travelled through the race, though, I thought he had gone out of it - I lost him for a moment half a mile out and then saw him again just before the last!
"Fair play to Slippers, he persevered with him and got him home and gave him a great ride.
"It's great to get that after promising so much in the Goffs bumper but lost his way and had some trouble.
"The Galway Hurdle would have to be in the back of our minds as he's a good ground horse."
