Sandymount Lady wins as Flat jockeys triumph in challenge
The Flat jockeys scored a 79-63 points win over the Jump jockeys in a Jockeys’ Challenge at Leopardstown today, in a two race challenge that concluded with Sandymount Lady #8217;s win Derrinstown Stud Gaisce Flat V Jump Jockeys Challenge Handicap.
The previous 1m6f handicap saw a clean sweep 1-2-3 for the Flat jockeys, and while Alain Cawley led home a Jump jockeys 1-2-3 in Sandymount Lady race, the cumulative totals for the fourth, fifth and sixth placings saw the Flat jockeys emerge victorious.
Following Sandymount Lady’s win, her trainer Jessica Harrington stated “I told her jockey Alain (Cawley) to wait, wait and wait, as she idles in front, and he gave her a super ride. She cant handle soft ground and is still a novice over hurdles so hurdling is an option again.”
