Sam Bass gets his revenge on Burrenbridge
Noel Meade recorded his fifth winner in four days as his Sam Bass took the opener at Cork this afternoon, the paddypower.com Mobile Betting 3yo Hurdle under Paul Carberry.
The son of Alhaarth made a successful debut over hurdles at Galway in August but was beaten into fourth at Gowran behind today's runner-up Burrenbridge Lodge early last month.
Sent off the 11/4 favourite today, Sam Bass hit the front at the last and went on from there to record a two and three parts of a length win over the aforementioned Burrenbridge Lodge who was returned at 10/3.
Having raced off level weights at Gowran, Burrenbridge Lodge was carrying three pounds more today. Black Belt who was backed from 33/1 this morning into 14/1 at the off ran well to take third seven and a half lengths behind.
Winning trainer Noel Meade said afterwards: "I'm not sure what happened to him at Gowran. He seemed to get lost in the pack. Even on the flat he liked to be ridden up with the pace so that's what we done today.
"He jumped great and I think he is not a bad horse.
"He will go to Fairyhouse next for a Grade 3 Hurdle (in early December) and we will see how he gets on there."
