Rummaging got the split inside the last half furlong and came through to cut down Antiquus and Knock Stars in Dundalk.
Mick Halford’s five-year-old was all the rage in the betting ring shortening from 2/1 to 6/4 favourite on the off, in his bid to follow up on a course victory over seven furlongs nine days ago.
“They had gone fast, he was drawn one and Shane (Foley) said he had loads of horse under him turning in. He’s probably best going seven furlongs and he stayed on well,” Michael Halford said of his charge who won this six furlong handicap.
“He loves it around here and we’ll be looking at anything from six to seven furlongs.”
There was a stewards enquiry called as the winner made contact with Antiquus on his outside before coming through to score. There were no alterations to the finishing order, but jockey Shane Foley on the winner picked up a five-day suspension for careless riding.
Antiquus and Wayne Lordan went down by three parts of a length at 9/2, while Knock Stars on the inner rail took third at 11/2 beaten two and a quarter lengths.
Rummaging is now four from eight on Dundalk’s polytrack. He gave Halford his fifth winner in the last two weeks.
