Willie Mullins has indicated that his star mare Quevega has probably run her last race, having finished a slightly unlucky-in-running second in the Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle at Punchestown today.
The six-time Cheltenham festival winner had to play second fiddle to surpise 20/1 winner Jetson having failed to hit top gear until the closing stages in her length and a quarter defeat.
Mullins said “I thought she didn't get much luck in running and Davy (Russell, on Jetson) rode a good race on the winner. He got a good run and it proved a winning run.
“I'll speak to the owners but I'd imagine this was her last race. She's a special mare and it would be hard to repeat what she has done; we'll always be trying to buy one like her but you can't replace her.”
