Prohibited Substance found in Royal County Star
The Referrals Committee, Mr. Peter N. Reynolds (in the Chair), Mr. John G. Moloney and Mr. B.J. Fitzsimmons, met in the Stewards Room at Punchestown Racecourse, Punchestown, Naas, Co. Kildare, on Tuesday 28th April, 2009, to consider a report from BHP Laboratories in Limerick that the biological fluid sample taken from "Royal County Star" following its win in the Irish Form Book An Uaimh Steeplechase at Navan on 28th March, 2009, was found to contain Frusemide which under Rule 20 (v) is a Prohibited Substance.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Tony Martin, Trainer, and Mr. Andrew Tyrrell, Turf Club Veterinary Officer. Having considered the evidence the Committee fined Mr Tony Martin ?1,000 plus costs, and disqualified "Royal County Star" from first place and ordered the record be amended to read as follows:-
First: Glenfinn Captain
Second: Watson Lake 0AThird: Emotional Article
Fourth: Justpourit
The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
