Presenting Julio (6/1cf) travelled powerfully for Donagh Meyler and that aided their cause as they landed the Leo Dolan Memorial Handicap Hurdle in Roscommon.
The pair moved eye-catchingly well after the second last, as they hunted down hard-pressed Courtncatcher in this extended three mile race.
The lead was assumed before the final hurdle and the nine-year-old gelding asserted on the run-in to come home by five lengths. Sir Ector ran a good race in second at 14/1 with Courtncatcher half a length adrift in third at 9/1.
“He did it well. He's probably a bit ground dependant but he's a good fun horse,” Gordon Elliott said.
“We might find something in Galway for him to give the owner a bit of craic.”
