Gary Carson
Police in control on chasing debut
Call The Police made an impressive start to his career over fences when taking the beginners chase at Gowran in great style.
Paul Townend, recording a double after the earlier victory of Cash And Go tracked the leaders on the Accordion gelding before taking closer order turning for home.
Willie Mullins' charge hit the front at the third last as long-time leader Gates Of Rome crashed out.
The 4/5 favourite didn't need to come off the bridle as he popped the last two on his way to a cosy three-and-a-half length victory over 33/1 shot Headford Flyer
The winner had shown smart form over hurdles last season, winning a decent Punchestown conditions event and finishing second in the MCR Hurdle.
"He jumped as well as my schooling riders were telling me and that seems to be his game," said Mullins.
"We probably won't see him until after Christmas now. The way he jumps he would have no trouble coming back to two miles but the Grade 2 two-and-a-half mile novice at Limerick looks an obvious race for him."
