Colin Bowe, battling to again be crowned 'king' of the point-to-points, this term, had his association with royalty, when his charge Mollyanna landed the Duke And Duchess Of Cornwall Mares Maiden Hurdle. Mark Walsh doubled his score on Mollyanna, after landing the first at Sligo as well, aboard Whatsforuwontgobyu
Bowe's travelling head man, David O'Connor, certainly wasn't fazed collecting one of the winner's prizes in the aftermath, from Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, seeing as he sung his way to glory in the 2007 edition of RTE's Your're A Star.
In the race Mollyanna held off Court Challenge by a length and three parts. Favourite Palm Sur s jumping didn't come up to the mark and she ended up finishing tenth.
"She travelled well and when I needed a good jump at the last she pinged it. I was always holding on," reported Walsh.
Bowe missed his brush with royalty as he's over at Doncaster Sales but Mollyanna's owner Bernard Cloney was on hand for the happy occasion.
The Stewards interviewed R.P. Treacy, rider of Silver Sally concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found R.P. Treacy in breach of Reg 10 3. (g) by using his whip with the arm above shoulder height and having taken his record into account the Stewards cautioned the rider regarding his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Palm Sur, trained by J.R. Barry, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
B.T. O'Connell, rider of Palm Sur trained by J.R. Barry, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made mistakes.
R.P. Treacy, rider of Silver Sally trained by Thomas P. Cummins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly from the second last.
