Aidan O’Brien had a couple of reverses in the first two races at Leopaardstown but it was all very straightforward for his 1/8 favourite Point Lonsdale ridden by Ryan Moore, in the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes.
The Australia colt, successful in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, tracked the leader Gabbys Girl before moving past that one entering the final quarter mile. From there he wasn’t at all hard pressed to account for Maritime Wings (8/1) by a comfortable three lengths.
Paddy Power go 10/1 favourite (from 12s) about the winner for the 2,000 Guineas and 9/1 favourite (from 10s) for the Derby.
“We're delighted with him. It was his first time to race around a bend and Ryan was very happy with him,” said O'Brien.
“He'll probably go to the Futurity next. It was nice for him to get a lead there and he would have learned a bit more today.
“That's his ground, he's a very low mover. He won in soft ground last time but that would have to be his favourite ground. He's lovely and low and his head goes down.
“He was even a bit green when he got to the front here today.”
