Paulie finally does it
Captain Paulie debuted in a bumper as far back as May 2007 and on his sixth attempt, a year on from finishing third in the same race, he clung on by a short head in the concluding paddypower.com Cork Grand National October 31st (Pro/Am) Flat Race.
Colin Motherway (went to Kilsheelan point-to-point beforehand to ride a 4yo that eventually didn't run) secured first run on the half brother to 11 time winner Garvivonnian and close though the well-backed favourite Fire Belt (found plenty of trouble in running) did, he couldn't quite get there.
Colm Murphy, initiating an across the card double with Raise The Beat victorious at Naas, said: "I'm delighted with that and we'll find a little maiden hurdle for him now. He has had a lot of little problems and he injured his pelvis after running in this race last year. We've been a long time waiting."
