Dual Champion Jockey Paul Carberry returned to action, following injury, with a win on his first ride back when making all on Noel Meade's bold jumping Thomond in the Cheestrings Beginners Chase at Listowel today.
Carberry showed no ill effects from a broken collarbone suffered in a fall at the July Killarney festival when making all on the son of Definite Article. The pair jumped well throughout and in the end had eight lengths to spare over Time Please
A delighted Meade later stated “the horse seemed to enjoy the jockey and the jockey seemed to enjoy the horse!”
“I was saying to Paul (Carberry) to hold off on coming back so soon on the fast ground but you can't tell a Carberry what to do!”
He added “we were half thinking of bringing him (Thomond) to the Sales but he had been promising to win one and worked very well the other day. He loves fast ground, stays well too and I might enter him for a three miles handicap chase here on Saturday.”
Reflecting on his first ride in public since July 15, Carberry said “it felt good and it'd be great of they all jumped as well as that!”
