Our Nancy (25/1) sprang a surprise in the Supermac’s Handicap Hurdle (Div II) when racing clear in the final furlong to win by five and a half lengths.
Held up by Sean O’ Keeffe, the 4-y-o filly by Roderic O’Connor made progress on the outer going towards the final flight, and she scooted round the final bend to soon lead and quickly settled matters.
Yeat’s Encore and the long-absent Marino Marvel filled the places, with the 11/4 favourite Zinat back in fourth.
It was hard to make a case for the winner beforehand, with this victory coming on the back of six unplaced runs over hurdles.
Our Nancy is trained in Quin, Co. Clare by Pat Hassett.
Winning rider Sean O’Keeffe said: “She’s only four and she’s improving and learning how to race.
“That was a nice run that she had in a good race at Kilbeggan last Friday night. She even learned from that and came forward.
“She really saw out the trip well there.”
