Cara’s Oscar (14/1) was another horse to benefit from a wind operation when winning the two and a half mile handicap hurdle at Roscommon with Robbie Power in the saddle.
This was the seven-year-old gelding’s first run back off a break of 205 days and his trainer Colm Murphy commented: “I’m delighted with that. He got a little wind job and it seems to have turned him inside out.
“His wind just seemed to be catching him. I was a little worried about the ground as it was on the soft side.
Puppy (Robbie Power) was good on him. He kept him wide on ground they hadn’t raced on. I imagine he’ll keep going now.” Imperial Shabra had made all for Ryan Treacy, but gave best after the final flight and went down by three and a quarter lengths. Realt Den Chathair (10/1) and second reserve Never A Secret (9/1) completed the placings in third and fourth respectively in this 16-runner contest. Elijah Gardner the 5/1 joint favourite for Noel Meade and Paul Townend, was trying to get into contention coming to the last but slipped up on the flat when staying on.
