There was a thrilling finish to the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden as 33/1 Rerouting got up on the line under Leigh Roche to win by a short head from fellow outsider Nawraq (50/1).
This pair, along with the 2/1 favourite Sen Ding were to the fore throughout with the winner just doing best on the run to the line to land the spoils. The market leader had every chance inside the final furlong and finished just a further nose back in third.
Like the majority of winning trainer Michael O’Callaghan’s two-year-olds this year, the winner came from the Breeze Up sales, in this instance costing 20,000 GB pounds in April.
"He is a lovely horse, is nice and big but raw and is a sleeper at home, said O'Callaghan.
"He only does enough so we weren't expecting a whole lot today but he had shown enough to suggest that he might win a maiden. It is a nice surprise today for one of ours to go and win first-time out.
"Leigh gave him a peach from stall 19 to get him up. He was still plenty green and Leigh got him balanced and he was good and game to the line. You'd imagine he'll get a mile.
"He is by El Kabeir (by Scat Daddy), a first season Yeomanstown Stud sire, and is the first one I've had."
