Mullins Completes Double in Bumper
Willie Mullins' late arrival had racegoers presuming Morning Supreme a first-time Supreme Leader mare, was a 'good-thing' for the bumper and after being sent off the even money favourite (at least 11/4 in the morning), Patrick Mullins' mount did her job in great style in the Downpatrick Flat Race.
Mullins, the trainer, was completing a double, following the earlier victory of Derrymore Dawn under his nephew, Emmet, in the beginners chase. He said: "I would have been here to see that fellow win too but I got held-up as my secretary was out sick and I had to do all of the entries myself.
"Derrymore Dawn has huge reserves of stamina and for a four-year-old to win over two miles seven on that ground was a fair performance. If we could just put a bit of speed into him he'd be alright.
"The mare (Morning Supreme) was way too keen there and she might go for a hurdle now and she should stay three miles in time. It is a first winner for the owner, Henry Murphy, from Newport in Limerick." (EM)
