Mountain Heather stays on best
Michael Hogan made the long journey from Tipperary up to Downpatrick with Mountain Heather and the filly rewarded him with a victory in the two mile two furlong beginners chase at odds of 11/2 under Denis Hogan. More Claret and The Rossmeister completed the placings with 5/2 favourite Vinnie pulling up before five out when something went amiss with the gelding.
Hogan has his eye on further prizes. He said: "We'll probably give her a break and come back for a hurdle race around Christmas. She is rated 95 over hurdles.
"Then maybe a winners of one chase will be next. She is a home bred owned by my wife who is away coursing today."
In winning this race, Hogan rode out his three-pound claim.
