Trainer Noel Meade and stable jockey Sean Flanagan completes an opening races double at Cork today as their Gigginstown House Stud owned Athenean justified 6/4 favouritism to win the Charleville Cheese Maiden Hurdle.
Meade and Flanagan had earlier won the opener with Vision D'ete and doubled their score with Athenean who eventually beat well backed Lighthouse Warrior (4/1 — 3/1 on track).
Afterwards Flanagan stated “he did that really well. He was a little bit novicey at one or two but it's something he'll improve from and he is hardy and ground it out to the line; that took a lot of getting.”
