May Dullea travelled ominously well for Mick Darcy in the two and a half mile maiden hurdle in Ballinrobe and the pair duly confirmed their superiority by a length and a quarter.
The 9/2 chance was stepping up on her runner-up spot in Down Royal when beaten three lengths by Kauto Mill Rose on August 30th.
Once she hit the front today in the home straight she wasn’t for stopping and beat Our Maimie (6/1) into second with a length and a half back to Girlie’sdream in third at 20/1. Tullydonnell Flyer the 4/1 favourite, was ridden along approaching the straight and could make no headway on the leaders in finishing sixth.
Successful trainer Denis said: “She was unlucky the last day. She missed the fourth last and it cost her ground at a crucial time. I was worried early in the race today as I thought Michael looked too far out of his ground, but he snuck into the race lovely.
“She wants good ground at the minute, but might go for a wind operation now as she probably won’t run until next Spring.
“My yard is coming back and I had a winner in Wexford recently [Table Forty Six on August 23rd].”
This was May Dullea's first win on her sixth start.
Royal Moll who was a warm order for this race after scoring on her only appearance to date in a bumper in Sligo was a non-runner due to the going.
