Massaman was the third winner by his sire Mehmas at Dundalk's eight race card today, registering a first success in the concluding DundalkStadium.com Handicap (div II), for trainer Jack Davison and jockey Gary Halpin.
The three year old was backed on the show from 20/1 to 11/1 and in the race briefly edged right and bumped runner-up Dinamine with a furlong to race. Massaman passed the winning line a neck in front and while a stewards' enquiry was called, the result was left stand.
Following the race, Halpin reported “he's a big horse and takes time to get into his stride. He found the line well today and could be on an upward curve. He ran well here over seven (furlongs) with me and was doing his best work at the line.
“He's trained by a good trainer and he'll map out a good campaign for him over the winter.”
Stallion Mehmas has recently had his 2022 covering fee doubled to €50,000 and earlier on today's card had winners with the Richard O'Brien trained Pandemic Princess and John McConnell's Mulgrave
