“I thought she might struggle as she’s small and the ground is deep," admitted trainer Gavin Cromwell after his Me Wee Bonnie Lass made it two from two in the GAIN Equine Nutrition Novice Handicap Hurdle at Gowran.
Transitioning into this company after scoring on debut in a Downpatrick maiden hurdle in July, the four-year-old Doyen filly with Sean Flanagan aboard again, defied market weakness to go in at odds of 20/1.
The Mark Coleman-owned youngster benefitted from a patient steer, leading approaching the last on the way to a two and a half length success over Ring O Roses
“We gave her plenty of time after her win in Downpatrick and I’m delighted with that. I thought she’d handle soft ground but that’s very testing today and she got through it fine," further reflected Cromwell.
“We’ll see what the handicapper does and take it from there.”
The Raceday Stewards interviewed John Joseph Hanlon, trainer of Eikonix (GB), concerning the conduct of Eikonix who was withdraw by order of the Stewards. The Raceday Stewards advised John Joseph Hanlon that a repeat performance of his charge may render a suspension in future.
