The father and son team of Adrian and Finian Maguire combined to take the bumper at Tipperary, the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services INH Flat Race, with Oscars Boss
Having finished ninth on his debut at Leopardstown over Christmas, the son of Norse Dancer sprang a 33/1 surprise to win on his next start at Cork in March.
Sent off a 10/1 chance today, he raced towards rear. He made headway on the outer from three furlongs out, and kept on well to lead inside the final furlong, going on to score by two and a quarter lengths. Black Ace was sent off the 7/4 favourite (from 5/2 last night), and he had to settle for second under Nina Carberry for Noel Meade. Winsome Bucks completed the placings a further length and three parts back in third under Declan Queally for Tom Hogan at 8/1 (from 10's).
Adrian Maguire said afterwards: "He is a nice horse and he got a super ride. He is a gorgeous big horse, he is 17hh plus and he needed the time he was given.
"He couldn't go to the sales at Punchestown because he had a very bad drop behind and it took while to sort it out.
"I'd love to have more like him. He'll go on better, but where or what he goes for next I don't know."
