There was plenty of pace on in the three-year-old handicap and it was the patiently-handled Notturno (9/2) who came out on top under Jake Coen.

Fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, the Zoffany gelding came from mid-division to close on the leaders in the dip and went on in the final furlong to beat Bright N Shine by three lengths.

Placed on three occasions earlier this season, the winner was making the breakthrough on start number thirteen and was reversing Roscommon form from earlier in the month with the runner-up.

The winner is trained for the Eagles Partnership by Noel Meade.

Coen said: "Mr Meade just told me to take my time. He done it well and was green going down the back. It was a messy race the whole way around. He won with a bit in hand and ran around a bit when I hit the front. He is a grand horse and hopefully he'll will progress again from it.

"The cheekpieces helped him massively. They helped him travel into the race and we got racing a long way out. The ones in front just slowed up and I was coming at them quick."
