Laganore proved a class act in the featured Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes at Gowran Park today.
Tony Martin's charge was sent off 7/2 joint favourite in the Group 3 contest and travelled sweetly into contention in the straight.
Colin Keane cut through the field from two furlongs out and the five-year-old was asked to quicken into the lead inside the final furlong.
She was soon in control and went on to post a two-length win over I'm So Fancy in the extended nine-furlong contest.
The winner was recording her first success of the year having been placed four times at stakes level. She had won three times last season, including in Listed company at Newmarket.
“She's been very good. Luck just didn't go her way but she's a right good mare and for the boys who own her she's worth a right few pounds now as a broodmare so it's worked out grand,” said Martin.
“She's been promising to do that for an age. She loves that ground and that's what Colin said. She's in good order and you couldn't be happier with her.
“I'll have a chat to the owner now and see what he says but today was important. We were a long time waiting all year.
“She didn't get the rub of the green there but sure today was great and it's worked out well.
“I couldn't see her staying in training next year as they'll want to breed from her. I doubt it very much but I'll chat with Maurice and see what he says but I doubt it.
“To get today out of the way was the really important thing and we'll see were we go. You'd be happy with her after that and there is not too much more we can do with her now.” Dabulena sent off the other 7/2 joint favourite, only beat one home in the end.
