Tom Kelly rode his first winner when Midnight Maestro (16/1) landed the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase at Leopardstown.
Kelly (21) is a cousin of the Brouder brothers who have been making waves in the conditional ranks. He’s also from Listowel and has been with winning trainer Enda Bolger since January.
On his third start for the Bolger yard, Midnight Maestro, for the sponsor, J P McManus, beat Theatre World by eight and a half lengths.
McManus also had the fourth home, Riviera Sun at 50/1.
“That was nice. I was a small bit worried when they took out the last fence as he's a great jumper,” said Bolger.
“That's Tom's first winner and I'm delighted for him. He's been working for us for the last year.
“He's well able to do the light weights so he'll get his chances.
“This horse will probably end up going down the cross country route as well.
“He jumped great, got a lovely ride and I'm delighted for Tom.”
J.P. O'Sullivan, rider of Fiveaftermidnight trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake three out.
Owing to low-lying sun, the Stewards granted permission for Fence #1 (the last) to be omitted from this race.
