Kashmir Peak won his first race at the 11th attempt when taking the 17-runner mile and a quarter handicap at Navan with Johnny Murtagh in the plate.
He went off at 6/1 for trainer Ger Lyons and this appeared based on his third place last-time out in Dundalk to a winner who has since scored at Listed level [Tannery].
The winner was ridden into the lead by Murtagh a furlong out and won by a neck from Lord Jim (14/1) on his inside.
Fast-finishing Purple (9/2) came from ninth a furlong out to third under Joseph O’Brien while Filatore at 25/1 completed the placings.
“He’s been threatening to do that. He’s growing into himself and is the spitting image of a horse I had a few years ago called Fiery Lad,” Ger Lyons said.
“I’m not saying he’s as good as him, but with confidence he can go on to win another one or two.” Money Spider the 4/1 favourite, came home sixth. She had been a morning price of 12/1.
