Review KILLARNEY 14th Jul

Mon 14th Jul 2008, 20:40

Willie Mullins saddled two runners in the Gleneagle Summer Cabaret Steeplechase and the pair landed a one-two, but not in the order the betting suggested.

Ruby Walsh elected to ride Irish Invader and the seven-year-old was sent off the 2-1 favourite, but in the end his stable companion Davenport Democrat (10-1) ran out a comfortable winner.< Emotional Article and Irish Invader did most of the donkeywork in the two-mile-one-furlong contest, but Davenport Democrat was never far away and looked to be going strongly approaching the second-last.

The 10-year-old had his stablemate beaten going to the last and pulled clear to win by three lengths under Davy Condon.< Rory Anna stepped up considerably on her unplaced debut run at Roscommon, where she lost many lengths at the start, to spring a 33-1 surprise in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.

Claimer Ben Curtis always had the Jonjo Walsh-trained filly close behind the leaders this time and challenged inside the last two furlongs, where favourite Lista Lightning joined in.

The pair of them settled down for a battle through the final furlong and Rory Anna proved the stronger, getting on top close home to score by a neck.

The Edward Lynam-trained Sinsational (3-1) just got the better of a duel with stablemate Icemancometh in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Claiming Race.

Shane Gorey attempted to make all on the odds-on favourite and had a four-length lead rounding the bend into the straight, where nearly all his rivals were toiling.

The exception was Sinsational, who was driven up to tackle the leader at the furlong pole and proved just the strongest under Shane Foley, winning by a head.< Fortune Seeker set off in front in the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park/Killarney Racegoers Club Maiden Hurdle and stayed there all the way.

Favourite Cloone Stream was always in touch and challenged from the second-last, but the leader (7-1) was always pulling out enough for John Cullen and won by five lengths to give trainer Brian Moran his first winner under rules.
