UK based Daryl Jacob partnered a winner on his first ride at Ballinrobe today, steering Willie Mullins' Fan Des Blues (7/2) to win the BoyleSports Chase for retained owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.
The 141-rated son of Poliglote was 11lb wrong with 1/3 favourite Cape Gentleman on official ratings but made all and shook off that rival from the second-last, beating him by seven lengths.
Jacob, who steered a Cheltenham winner for Mullins with Concertista in the 2020 mares' novice hurdle, said: "he probably needs a little bit further but I thought Willie and Anthony (Bromley) placed him really well and it was a nice opportunity for him.
"He's a brilliant jumper. He was a little bit rushy into one down the back and at the last as well, but all in all when you need a good jump from him he delivers.
"Cape Gentleman was a little bit slow at a couple of jumps, and when that happened I was able to fill my lad up whenever I had the opportunity. I knew he was on my girths the whole way but I could sense that he wasn't travelling as well as I was."
