Finny Maguire rode his third winner in succession - following on from Silver Concorde and Pashtunwali at Killarney - when he got 100/30 chance Brogine home by three parts of a length in the concluding John Madden & Sons INH Flat Race at Ballinrobe.
The Braddish family in County Limerick own, train and bred the victorious daughter of Milan, who was tough in fending off Don'tdropmein - had looked sure to get the better of the duel more than once over the closing couple of furlongs.
"I thought we weren't coming as the ground was too soft," reported Seamus Braddish.
"We made our mind up at about 2 o'clock as the ground changed from heavy, to soft to heavy, so we said we'd come and see.
"She is a tough little horse, she is only handy but she gives her all every day she goes out.
"We'll wait and see where she goes, we'll give her a bit of time off now and we'll see what's coming up. She'll go over hurdles before we retire her for the year."
The Stewards interviewed Mr L. Devery, rider of St Agnes Church concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(b), in that he continued to use the whip after his chance of winning or being placed had gone and having considered his record, suspended him for seven race days.
