- Glenquest Lands Listowel Opener
Glenquest Lands Listowel Opener
Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork trainer, Terence O'Brien, well-known to followers of racing 'between the flags,' bridged a gap of considerable years when sending out Glenquest to take the opener at Listowel under Kevin Coleman. In front before the last, the 14/1 chance stayed on to defeat fellow outsiders, Final Question and Light Sentence by three parts of a length and a neck.
"This horse had decent point-to-point form but I thought he might need the run, he's obviously pulled out fitter than I thought. I trained horses a number of years ago and I took out a licence again last year. I have eighteen in, mainly point-to-pointers, and I'm delighted for the owners, the Kenneallys from Kilworth, who bred the horse on their farm," explained O'Brien.
He was responsible for Copper Supreme, when that good mare made a victorious debut under Rules in a Wexford bumper in March 1998. (EM)
