Good Tradition is a suitably-named Dermot Weld trained-runner at Galway on Sunday as the master of Rosewell House bids to continue his long love affair with the venue in the www.swordsecurity.com (QR) Race.
Weld has had many memorable Galway moments down through the years and none more notable than the 1993 Galway Plate, won by top weight General Idea under Adrian Maguire, father of Good Tradition's jockey, Finian Maguire.
Good Tradition, carrying the Moyglare Stud colours, set the pace in last month's Irish St Leger before eventually trailing home but is back in more suitable company.
He can prove too strong for versatile jumper Jennies Jewel whose rating of 84 is exactly 20lb below the likely favourite.
Something has to give in the SanServ Rated Novice Chase as four runners in a field of five were last-time-out winners.
Weld saddles one-time high class bumper performer Waaheb and the JP McManus-owned runner can follow up his recent Tipperary win.
Opposing him are recent winners Lord Scoundrel My Direction and Badgerfort.
One of Weld's main owners Dr Ronan Lambe has a runner in the CCTV Venue Control Maiden Hurdle with the Jim Culloty-trained Dramatic Event
The son of Old Vic has performed well to finish third in two bumper starts and takes on recent Tramore scorer Thinkitplanitdoit, for trainer Liz Doyle.
Elsewhere, the Donie Hassett-trained Bendala Bleu can follow up last month's Listowel win in the Renvyle House Hotel Handicap Chase.
