Edison takes the last for Martin and Power

Mon 26th Dec 2011, 16:10

The Tony Martin trained Thomas Edison sprang a 12/1 surprise under Kevin Power in the bumper at Leopardstown this afternoon overturning the 4/5 favourite Champagne Fever

The son of Danehill Dancer had two runs to his name before today finishing third on his debut over hurdles at Down Royal in November before finishing third again in a bumper at Fairyhouse earlier this month.

The bay gelding hit the front a furlong from home and stayed on well to beat the favourite by four and a quarter lengths at the line. The Mighty Milan completed the placings a further three and a quarter lengths back in third at the odds of 4/1.

Winning trainer Tony Martin said afterwards: “He is a nice little horse and the ground brought out the best in him today. We are in no rush with him as he is only a 5yo and I think he is quick enough to win on the level.

Martin also mentioned Bog Warrior who fell in the feature Racing Post Novice Chase and said “He is sore he got a bang to his head.”
