Ricky Doyle bagged a winner on his first ride for trainer Mags Mullins at Tipperary today as his for-sale mount Gunfire Reef proved his current well-being by landing the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase.
The ten year old's previous win was in 2018 and today raced prominently before eventually holding off runner-up Brogine by four lengths.
Doyle, who is based with trainer Conor O'Dwyer, later stated “that's my first ride for Mags; I gave Danny (Mullins, Mags Mullins' son) a call during the week to see would he get me on it and to be fair he did, thank god.
“I thought he had an each-way chance and he is going to the sales (Goffs UK Summer Sale on July 29) at the end of the month so I had that in mind.
“He is a proper stayer, we went steady and he jumps away and galloped all the way to the line.”
