Massiyn s win in the Silken Thomas Handicap at The Curragh this evening helped his owner the Aga Khan, trainer Michael Halford and jockey Shane Foley complete doubles, arriving late to defeat the similarly owned Vedani by half a length.
The Aga Khan had earlier had success with a John Oxx runner (Sinaniya, under Johnny Murtgh) while both Halford and Foley combined earlier with maiden winner Regulation
Vedani looked to have Massiyn a furlong out but Massiyn finished well to get the lead close home, for his narrow win.
Afterwards Halford stated “Massiyn surprised me a little bit today as I didn't think he'd go on the ground with that much weight.
“He's been in such great form at home and Shane gave him a great ride; he let him find his way and they picked up well. Massiyn is going the right way and we'll see what Gary (O'Gorman, handicapper) does with him now. He'll probably go for another handicap but I think there is plenty more to come from him and he will stay further.”
