Father and son Philip and Luke Dempsey combined to win the N.I. Children's Hospice EBF Handicap Hurdle at Navan today with Kilkeaskins First who was following up a recent win at Kilbeggan earlier this month.
Jockey Luke Dempsey moved the son of Mountain High clear from the second last and from there the pair recorded an easy five lengths win over Fiesole
Kilkeaskins First was registering a third career win and afterwards his trainer Philip Dempsey commented “he’s obviously improved and that seems to be the way to ride him. He jumped away well and coped well with the extra 9lb (for his Kilbeggan win).
“He’s a horse that always showed an awful lot at home but was disappointing on the track. We were probably running him over the wrong trip, and I’d say he’s a two-miler.”
