Jockey David Mullins completed a double at Roscommon today when steering his father Tom Mullins' Annie Alainn to win the Athlone Handicap Hurdle.
Mullins, earlier successful on Deputy Consort, moved the daughter of Beneficial out of mid-division early in the home straight and produced her with perfect timing to lead late on the run-in, for a length and a half win over He Is Top Class
Mullins senior will have gained plenty pleasure from the eight year old mare who won first-time out for the trainer when defying a near three year absence at Downpatrick in March and was today scoring a second win.
He later stated "she won well in Downpatrick first time out for me but then disappointed in Thurles and I think 2m2f stretches her.
"I thought she was a staying mare but she's not so we'll keep to that distance for the moment and keep to 0-98 as well if she stays in it which she should.
"There is maybe something in Killarney although it might be a bit soon."
