Lamprog (5/1jf) gained consecutive wins for trainer Ray Cody today, landing Tipperary's 1m1f handicap when defying a 3lbs rise for a recent Gowran win, under jockey Ben Coen.
The daughter of Footstepsinthesand scored by a neck when gaining a first win at Gowran a fortnight ago and today scored by a head, from Inchiquin Star
Cody, who bred Lamprog, later said “she is a lot stronger this year and has grown up a lot. I left the cheekpieces off her today and that was more or less her first day without them. The ground was a worry today but she battled well to the line.
“The handicapper was very fair on her and with any more weight and she would have been beaten. She is a fun filly and is going the right way.
“She was up two furlongs (from Gowran) on heavier ground but she might even now get 1m2f on good ground. Sean Davis won on her the last day but was suspended and I thought Ben was very good on her.”
Both Lamprog and her dam Luciole translate, in Irish and French respectively, to 'firefly'.
