Well-backed Captain Conby (15/8 — 11/8f) made a winning debut over fences at Killarney today, landing the Killarney Avenue Hotel Beginners Chase for trainer Eamonn 'Dusty' Sheehy and jockey Keith Donoghue.
Twelfth in the Galway Hurdle on August 3, the Conduit-gelding today made some minor jumping errors but travelled well, challenged at the final two fences and scored eased-down from Great Bear
Sheehy reported “no matter what happened in the Galway Hurdle the plan was always to go chasing. Keith thinks he has a nice future over fences and hopefully he can compete at a high level.
“I intended going to run him in a novice chase at Wexford next week, that's how confident I was with him.
“The graded Kilbegnet Chase at Roscommon is an obvious target for him - I've finished second in it twice so I'm going to have a go again.”
