Algonquin and Kevin Manning beats Manny Owens and Tom Madden

After a couple of earlier second placings, Jim Bolger hit the target with Algonquin under Kevin Manning in the Silken Thomas & Lock 13 Handicap at the Curragh.
One man's gain can sometimes be at another man's pain, and in this case it was Bolger's fellow Wexford man, Cormac Farrell, who saddled half a length runner-up Manny Owens (had looked likely to score under Tom Madden).
Farrell's Captain Carleton had also shaped like a potential victor, of the DoneDeal Apprentice Derby an hour earlier, before having to settle for a close up third.
Anyway, in the aftermath of Algonquin's win Bolger said: "He's a gutsy little horse. He had a little setback after winning at Dundalk and we gave him some time. He'll go for another handicap and could come back a bit in trip."
