Amber Knight enjoys his trip
Darrell Deacon sent Amber Knight on the long journey up from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford to land Down Royal’s opening three mile handicap chase in good style at odds of 6/1.
The bottom weight – who was four pounds out of the handicap – picked off 11/4 favourite Mister First after the final fence to win going away by three lengths.
Mister First had hit the front three out and appeared to be going strongly but had no answer to Amber Knight who stayed on stoutly after the last.
Conor Maxwell was on board the nine-year-old gelding and he commented: “They went a good gallop. He travelled well and picked up well.
“He missed the fourth last but he was rolling down the hill after the third last and I always thought I was going to get there.”
Successful trainer Darrell Deacon added: “He ran well in Thurles [third behind Torremuelle]. He was four pounds out of the handicap today. It’s very hard to find a race he would get into.”
33/1 shot More Chimney's completed the placings in third a further 11 lengths away.
