Tom's Article rounded off a day to remember for Gordon Elliott at Downpatrick as he ran out an easy winner of the bumper, the Ballydugan INH Flat Race, providing his Co Meath based handler with a four-timer on the card (came in at over 58/1).
Successful earlier with with Moss Street (13/8), Swantykay (5/2fav) and I C Gold (10/3), all ridden by Paul Carberry, Tom’s Article was widely expected to complete the four-timer as he went off the 1/2 favourite.
Ridden by Nina Carberry the Emer O’Brien trained gelding led early before being headed seven furlongs out.
He eased to the front again over three furlongs out and he was ridden clear turning into the straight, keeping on well from there to score easily by thirteen lengths. Inchivara kept on to take second at 14/1 for John Ryan, with newcomer Indian Whiskey in third while 11/4 chance Double Infinity was a disappointing last.
Elliott said afterwards: "That’s nice. I think it’s my first four-time in Ireland, I’m not sure if I had one in Perth before.
"He's very green. He likes good ground and we'll keep him going over the summer.
"That's his owner's first winner and she has owned horses since 1980."
