He deserved that as he got a wicked bad fall here in the race after the Grand National and I thought he was dead when he hit the ground. The lads (Miracle Cure Syndicate) deserved a big day like that and they have been with me from the very start. To come back and do that is unbelievable. He ran well over hurdles in Clonmel but the ground dried up too much in Carlisle the last day. This was always the plan. They went a wicked gallop which I knew would suit him as he stays and Danny gave him a great ride. He kept him wide and he jumped great. He loves soft ground and is much better going this way. If he got in he might go for the Irish National one day. The National Trial in Punchestown could be a race for him. I’m based in Tramore and that’s my biggest win.

The owners (Miracle Cure Syndicate) haven't been at the races in two years and weren't allowed in for his two wins last January so I'm delighted to be able to pay them back with a lovely win. These owners have been with me since I started,. I'm very lucky as I've good owners with good syndicates who have stuck with me through the past two years. This was the horse's first handicap and he just loves that ground. I didn't want to run him at Leopardstown as the ground wasn't soft enough and there was no race for him at Limerick (over Christmas). We had to wait for the soft ground but once he has that, he is a happy horse. I'll see what the handicapper does now but he'll have to brush up his jumping. He is a good flag-bearer when I'm getting going myself and hopefully we can win another race or two. I have 15 in training and am after building a yard with 30 stables and am always looking for more.

He is tough, is a relentless galloper and I thought Barry John gave him a lovely ride and let the race unfold in front of him,. Even though his last run was only a week ago I knew he'd improve for the experience of being in a first handicap. He just loves this ground and that’s the main reason I left him in it for such a good pot and from such good sponsors. That's my third runner as a trainer - I had one earlier, but shouldn't have bothered bringing him at all!

I did the training course on zoom last year and wasn’t really planning on getting the licence until about March but I worked this lad and a couple of others last week and they worked okay so I said I may get it out in case any of them win it would be a good way to start. I thought with a circuit to go he was struggling but thankfully Hugh kept a good hold of his head and kept him going. Hugh said he was flat to the boards the whole way. He’s a chaser in the making. I train only a mile from Tramore racecourse. I rode 20 winners as a conditional in England but I fractured by scull and my weight went against me. Training was always in the back of my head. I started with Michael Hourigan when he had Beef Or Salmon, and then I went to Richard Guset and on to Evan Williams. They are all very good trainers who train differently. I have about 15 in at the moment divided between the track and point-to-points. I hoped to build a new barn last summer but when the lockdown came I was a bit worried. Hopefully we’ll get that done this year and get a few more in.
