He was high class; he was a Grade 1 winner. He was very unlucky all winter with the ground being very soft, he was struggling with his wind on real soft ground,. said Elliott. We went hunter chasing with him and had a great plan to qualify him for the Foxhunters this year but didn't get to qualify him, everything went wrong. For him to come back and win for the lads here is great because they've been patient with him. He wasn't going to have too many more chances which just goes to show if you don't give up. He's a lovely horse, it's great for Pioneer and great for Danny Gilligan, a local man, who was touched off in a couple of races during the week. I thought when he hit the front a half furlong down 'I don't know if he'll get home with his wind'. I'd say it just did catch him for the last half furlong. He's been a horse of a lifetime for me, I've had him since he was a four-year-old. Obviously he's a Grade 1 winner and to come back and win for the boys today, if he doesn't do anything ever again he's going to have a great life. In fairness he has dropped a lot in the handicap, he's 123 there and was rated 160 at his best. We'll enjoy today and make a plan after that. He might go to Listowel for one of the handicap chases there.

I'm so happy because he just lost his way a bit but really enjoyed today. He jumped like a buck and travelled well and I think he liked the space. He battled today, which he hasn't done recently and that could be the turning point again.

He ran a great race and I'm delighted. He's a good horse and I'd say we were going too far with him at the end of last year. I'd say two and half miles for him, something like the John Durkan and Samcro could go there too.

After race at Leopardstown Sun, 29th Dec, 2019 (1st)
He'll probably come on a bit from the run, he's having a good blow after it,. Davy said the two of them only hacked around and it was like a nice school. He said he only did what he had to do. It's not ideal for the sponsors who put the prize-money up but there is nothing we can do about the ground and that's the way it is. The second horse is a good horse, he's rated 150. I'd imagine he could come back here for the Flogas. He'll be entered in it and we'll see. The way he jumps and travels, he's a real nice horse, he's a big chaser. He'll go on any ground and he's won three times on good ground. I like the way he jumps. The runner-up will probably go for what used to be the four-miler. I was happy with both horses. It's been an unbelievable week. We've had ten winners and four Grade 1s. I went home with my tail between my legs on the first day but that's the way it is.

The Florida Pearl looks a perfect race for Battleoverdoyen before we think about moving him up to three miles,. He was a Grade One winner over hurdles and I’m hoping he will do the same as a chaser and hopefully he will take the beating at the weekend. He is in good form and has come on for his run in Galway, so we are looking forward to bringing him back to Punchestown.

After race at Naas Sun, 6th Jan, 2019 (1st)
Battleoverdoyen has been in great form since Navan and this was the obvious race to aim for with him. He was good over two miles last time, but he always struck us like a horse who would be at his best over longer trips so the race at Naas looks an ideal distance for him. This is a big step up from his maiden hurdle, but I’m very happy with him and I think there is more to come from him. Hopefully he’ll run a big race, but this does look like quite a strong renewal.

After race at Navan Sun, 16th Dec, 2018 (1st)
We think he’s a nice horse. He improved a lot from his run the last day in the bumper and he’ll improve again for his first run over hurdles,. He jumped very well and a step up in trip the next day will suit him. He stays very well. He’ll probably go to Naas next (for the Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle, Grade 1 on January 6th) all being well.

he’s a big chaser and a horse for the future. We think he’s very smart. He’d a few niggly problems last year and we didn’t get to run him. He’s only a baby and we might go for that 2m3f bumper in Naas. He’s not a horse that we’re going to do too much with this year. He jumps brilliant and he’s a gorgeous looking horse. Lisa said he was very green going to the start, and it was only the last half-furlong that he got going.
