An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Petite Jack (GB), ridden by Sean Levey, interfered with Exceeding Power (GB), placed second, ridden by George Wood.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Petite Jack (GB)’s placing as the gelding had made contact with and unbalanced Exceeding Power (GB) on a number of occasions, and there was only a head between the two horses at the line.
They revised the placings as follows: First, Exceeding Power (GB), second, Petite Jack (GB).
The interference was found to be accidental as Petite Jack (GB) had hung left-handed despite Levey’s best efforts.
The rider of Cosmeapolitan (GB), placed third, took a precautionary check on the line as interference was taking place in front of him, causing him to make brief contact with the rail and become unbalanced.
Following the race, Kieren Fox reported that Eddystone Rock (IRE), placed fourth, was taken wide on the bend, and Sean Levey reported that Petite Jack (GB), placed second, hung left-handed.
