Review wexford 15th Apr
Niall Madden returned to action from an injury lay-off with victory for his father 'Boots' Madden on Salesin in the Black Point Handicap Hurdle at Wexford.
Riding for the first time since suffering a head injury in a fall in the Leinster National at Naas at the beginning of last month, Madden led from the outset on the eight-year-old.
Salesin (16-1) had most of his rivals in trouble some way out and kept up a relentless gallop to dispose of Red Key by six lengths in the familiar JP McManus colours.
Declan Bates rode Mayo Mystique with plenty of confidence in the Ingard Point Maiden Hurdle and Philip Rothwell's mare repaid him with a cosy victory.
The 100-30 favourite was going much the best in the closing stages, but Bates held on to her until after the last flight and she responded well when challenged by Coral Creek to score by a length.
There was a thrilling finish to the three-mile Oysters Point Handicap Hurdle and it went to the John Murphy-trained Whatsabillion (14-1).< Miss Mary Mac led two out, but Model County Lass refused to give up and got the better of their duel before David Splaine grabbed them both on Whatsabillion to score by a neck.< Baily Rock had some decent form in the book over hurdles and got off the mark over fences at the eighth attempt in the Black Point Beginners Chase.
Andrew McNamara pushed Mouse Morris's eight-year-old into the lead approaching two out and the 12-1 shot only had to be kept up to his work to score by a comfortable four lengths.
John Carr's Turnonthegas (12-1) led three out and pulled out all the stops for Ian McCarthy to hold the determined challenge of Carrigeen Eile by a neck in the Cahore Point Handicap Hurdle.
