Review tipperary 18th Aug
Johnny Murtagh brought Alanza (9/2) with a well-timed challenge to land a competitive renewal of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary.
The front-running Claiomh Solais stuck to her guns well, with Anam Alta finishing to good effect too, but Alanza showed an impressive turn of foot to catch them both and register her second victory at Listed level.
Murtagh was on the board earlier when Ultra Cool showed no ill effects from Monday's Roscommon win in the Glenvale Stud Handicap.
Adrian McGuinness' 7/2 favourite took the lead at the furlong marker and she bounded a length and a quarter clear of Cornakill at the line.
Murtagh followed that up when Buffalo Billy put his experience to good use in the Camas Park Stud EBF Maiden.
Trained, like Alanza, by John Oxx, the 5/2 shot had offered plenty of encouragement on his previous two outings and hit top gear in the final 100 yards to catch Absolute Crackers with both Livia Galilei and Ronan's Bay making promising starts in close attendance.< Bay Knight (9/2) ended a bit of a losing run under an aggressive ride from Shane Foley in the Mocklershill Stables Race.
Ken Condon's gelding was allowed an uncontested lead so when the likes of Giant Step and Good Time Sue loomed up, he had plenty in reserve to kick again, coming home two and a half lengths clear of the latter.
The application of blinkers did the trick for the Dermot Weld-trained Olfa (2/1), who finally broke her duck in the Meadowview Stables Maiden.
Weld also fitted Oh What A Kitten with headgear for the first time but after leading for much of the Costello Tavern Race, she faded tamely and trailed in last.
At the business end, Brown Butterfly made a welcome return to form and comprehensively accounted for Joe Eile by two and a half lengths as an 8/1 chance.
