Review roscommon 29th Sep

Tue 29th Sep 2009, 18:10

There were some promising sorts on show in the Boyle Novice Hurdle at Roscommon and it was Dermot Weld and Paul Townend who combined to take top honours with 11-2 chance Teach Nua

The five-year-old let down favourite backers at Downpatrick on his latest outing but bounced back with a two-and-a-half-length defeat of Sinntaran

Townend said: "The ground at Downpatrick the last day was much too soft for Teach Nua and today he jumped well and travelled great the whole way."

The Dessie Hughes-trained Dawn Choir (13-2) booked his place at the Doncaster Sales when running out a wide-margin winner of the Four Roads Maiden Hurdle.

The trainer said: "Dawn Choir won a point-to-point and ran well in bumpers but didn't appear the type to win one.

"He likes good ground and will be entered in the Doncaster Sales at the end of October."

The All Creatures Veterinary Handicap Hurdle turned into a family affair with Pat Foley guiding Ringned to success for his father Thomas.

The 10-1 chance was never far off the pace under the claiming pilot and found plenty for pressure to beat off the challenge of Piper's Knowe by a head.

Jockey Adrian Heskin secured his seventh winner when scoring on Amie Magnificent (8-1) in division one of the Ballybride Mares Maiden Hurdle, but those who took the odds-on about Whispering Wind in the second division were made to sweat before collecting their winnings.

The Joanna Morgan inmate was sent off at 8-13 but made a bad mistake at the second from home and was flashing her tail on the run-in before passing the post a length to the good.

Morgan later made it a double with A Hit Is A Hit (4-1) in the Athleague Flat Race.< Seldom Fed sprung a 16-1 surprise when opening his account over timber in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle for Paul Nolan.
