Review listowel 3rd Jun
Michael Hourigan's high-class jumper False Economy showed his versatility by landing the Bryan McMahon (QR) Race when switched to the Flat on Listowel's mixed card.
Third in the Powers Gold Cup behind Flemenstar when last seen over fences, the seven-year-old was held up as Dearest Girl took them along at a sedate pace in the mile-and-three-quarters contest.
Hot favourite Notable Graduate hit the front a furlong and a half out, but Laura Hourigan had False Economy (4-1) in top gear and he got on top in the final 100 yards to score by half a length, repeating his success in the race two years ago.
The trainer was also on target with the Mark Walsh-ridden Dingaling (4-1 joint-favourite), who carried the JP McManus colours to a convincing victory by three and a quarter lengths in the Jackie & Gene Handicap Hurdle.< One Fine Day put in an eyecatching run when fourth on her debut at Navan a fortnight ago and she stepped up on that with a commanding victory in the www.listowelraces.ie Median Auction Maiden.
Fran Berry was always close to the pace on Jessie Harrington's three-year-old and the 2-1 favourite swept past Romantic Stroll on the final bend before powering away to score by four and a quarter lengths.
Berry doubled up when McManus's Stocktons Wing (7-2 joint-favourite), trained by Charles O'Brien, flew ahead a furlong out to land the Listowel Whit Weekend Handicap by two and a quarter lengths.
Shane Foley was another to land a brace, first delivering a late challenge on Tony Mullins' Naked Cowboy (5-2 favourite) to take the St John's Literary Handicap by a neck, then grabbing Swerve close home to win the George Fitzmaurice Handicap by the same distance on the Joe Murphy-trained Rock On Ciara (5-1).
Alan Crowe won the Dr Louis O'Carroll Maiden Hurdle on Faranadooney (3-1), but a quick double was thwarted when McManus's long odds-on Park Ranger fell two out in the Croom House Stud Maiden Hurdle and handed the race to Knockaunroe (11-2).
