Review leopardstown 21st Jun

Thu 21st Jun 2012, 20:20

< Takar regained the winning thread in the Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown.

John Oxx's colt came up short in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but was much more at home at this Listed level, with Johnny Murtagh dashing back across from Royal Ascot to retain the partnership.

Backed into 4/7 favourite in the absence of Banna Boirche, he travelled with enthusiasm on the heavy ground just behind the leaders.

Briefly denied a run, he was switched closer to the inside rail by Murtagh, who only had to give him a couple of gentle reminders for him to stroll four and a quarter lengths clear of Soul Custody

Aidan O'Brien may have been out of luck with Fame And Glory in the Gold Cup, but the Ballydoyle maestro struck with Pedro The Great in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

The even-money favourite, a half-brother to 2000 Guineas hero Footstepsinthesand, was bounced out in front by Seamie Heffernan, who didn't have to get too serious to see off main market rival Wexford Opera by four and a quarter lengths.

Experience told in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden, as O'Brien's newcomer Circle was outbattled by the 13/8 market leader Romantic Stroll

Making her fifth appearance, Tommy Stack's daughter of Oratorio looked booked for minor honours once more when headed halfway down the straight, but she showed excellent resolution to get her head back in front close home.< One Fine Day (5/4) had beaten Romantic Stroll at Listowel earlier in the month and followed up in the 'Frank And Walters' Handicap.< Strandfield Lady (11/4) defied a welter burden in the Leopardstown Club Members Handicap.

Hit with a penalty for last week's course success, Harry Rogers' mare swooped last of all down the outside to cross the line with two lengths in hand of Miss Forde and now has seven Leopardstown triumphs to her name.
